Madras High Court today came down heavily on Tamil Nadu government over the handling of cases of missing children and wanted to know why no compensation was paid in cases which were closed as 'undetected'.
After perusing the counter affidavit of the government on a habeas corpus petition filed by an NGO, a bench comprising Justices S Nagamuthu and V Bharathidasan said there was no mention of what concrete plans the police will take in investigating the pending cases.
Referring to the mention that seven cases of missing children had been closed as 'undetected', the bench asked the additional public prosecutor that on what basis those cases were closed and said compensation of Rs three lakh should have been paid to the aggrieved families in these cases.
