The Uttarakhand High Court today pulled up the state government for treating lightly the dangerous formation of a glacier near Gaumukh which could cause Kedarnath-like tragedy in the future.

A division bench of Chief Justice KM Joseph and Justice VK Bisht termed the state government's attitude to the situation as non-serious and directed it to take the help of agencies such as ISRO and NDRF to ward off any such possibility.

The court asked the government to file a speedy reply in the matter and take serious steps to prevent any disaster which may be caused due to the situation.

The court's directive came on a PIL, filed by Delhi resident Acharya Ajay Gautam, which brought to its notice that a glacier has formed near the point of Ganga's origin Gaumukh which can cause a Kedarnath-type devastation in the near future.
