The Madras High Court today quashed criminal defamation proceedings pending in a lower court against PMK founder-leader S Ramadoss.

The matter relates to a criminal defamation petition filed against Ramadoss in connection with some remarks he allegedly made against former chief minister Jayalalithaa during a meeting organised by PMK at Ariyalur in 2013.

The Ariyalur district public prosecutor filed the petition before the principal district and sessions judge alleging that his speech was defamatory in nature.

Challenging it, Ramadoss filed a petition in the high court for quashing the proceedings in the lower court.

Allowing Ramadoss' plea, Justice R Hemalatha quashed the criminal defamation proceedings in the lower court.
