The Calcutta High Court today quashed a notification of West Bengal government stoppping pension to political prisoners, which was initiated by the previous Left Front government.
Justice Arijit Banerjee quashed the notification on a petition challenging its legality by a section of the pensioners.
The Left Front government had, after coming to power in the state in 1977, initiated an 'Assistance to political sufferer scheme', their counsel Bikash Bhattacharya said.

The state government opposed the prayer claiming that the pension was aimed at giving doles to people close to the Left Front and as such it was a politically motivated scheme.
