The Kerala High Court today criticised the state government for delay in land acquisition proceedings for development of national highways and said it amounts to failure of the government machinery.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice P R Ramachandran Menon orally observed that the government was not keen on acquiring the land for highway development.

This amounts to failure of government machinery (rpt) machinery, the court said.

It also pointed out that "if they cannot run the show, they have to stop".

The observations were made while considering cases relating to highway development.
