The Madras High Court today rapped CB-CID for not making progress in the probe into the 2012 murder case of K N Ramajayam, brother of former Tamil Nadu Minister K N Nehru.

"Will you certainly crack or possibly crack or probably crack the Ramajayam murder case?" Justice S Nagamuthu of the Madurai bench of the HC told Anbu, Superintendent of Police, CB-CID, when he was present at the court to brief about the developments in the probe.

The Judge, however gave time till July 24 to CB-CID to submit a progress report in the case and directed him to be present in the court on that day.

The SP attributed the delay to the lack of evidence and clues in the murder. "We have now zeroed in on the accused and certain matters could not be disclosed as of now", he submitted.

The Judge then asked the Additional Advocate General if they were confident of fixing the accused and posed the question to Anbu "will you certainly crack or possibly crack or probably crack the Ramajayam murder case".

Yesterday also, the judge had expressed displeasure over the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) not cracking the murder case even after three years.

Ramajayam, an entrepreneur, had gone for a walk on March 29, 2012. His body was later found with severe head injuries on the banks of the Cauvery near Tiruchirapalli.

A petition was was filed by Latha Ramajayam, widow of Ramajayam, seeking a CBI probe probe into the case.

Justice Nagamuthu said it was unfortunate that CB-CID had not even fixed the accused in the case so far and wondered if the sleuths even thought of employing scientific techniques to solve the case rather than "harping on investigative practises of the colonial days."

The counsel for Latha submitted that the case was initially probed by local police in Tiruchirappalli. It was transferred to CB-CID on June 22, 2012 on the basis of orders passed by the then DGP.
