The Punjab and Haryana High Court today refused to interfere in an FIR seeking action against rapper Honey Singh for allegedly bringing disrepute to Indian culture by singing "vulgar" songs.
The court, however, said the rapper could resort to appropriate remedy if there was any.
The court also said it was for state governments to decide whether they should set up some authority for screening the songs before they are released.
The PIL filed by NGO Human Empowerment League of Punjab (HELP) seeking directions to "set up an effective mechanism to curb the menace of lewd songs" was also disposed of.
The court directions came after the Nawanshahr-based NGO filed an appeal seeking directions to set up an effective mechanism to curb the menace of obscene songs.
An FIR was also lodged against Singh in May seeking action against the singer for allegedly bringing disrepute to Indian culture.
Singh had earlier claimed on Wednesday before court that he has never sung 'Main Hun Balatkari' and that he was a victim of mistaken identity, while favouring the setting up of Censor Board for songs.
