The Madras High Court has rejected a plea seeking quashing of a case registered against a police inspector and a sub-inspector for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 for letting off an accused last year in Kanyakumari district.
"There are prima facie materialsavailable against them and it will not be appropriate to interfere with the trial pending before the Nagercoil Chief Judicial Magistrate," said Justice M Venugopal of the high court's Madurai bench.
He dismissed the plea of Inspector A Thanga Nadan and Special Sub-Inspector C Deva Kumaradhas ofNithiravilai police station in Kanyakumari district, who were "caught red-handed" in a trap laid by Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption sleuths while allegedly receiving the bribe.
The prosecution has charged the two with demanding Rs 20,000 from one M Suresh Kumar in April last for dropping his name while filing a charge sheet in an assault case.
