The Gwalior bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court today turned down the anticipatory bail application of state minister Lal Singh Arya who is an accused in the murder of a Congress MLA in 2009.

A single judge bench of the high court comprising Justice Sheel Nagu dismissed the bail plea.

The bench rejected the contention of Arya's counsel that since the evidence against his client was too weak, he should be granted relief.

Arya had moved the court after his plea for the pre-arrest bail was rejected by the special court in Bhind district.

Bhind Special Judge Yogesh Gupta had served a bailable warrant against Arya on August 8 in connection with the murder of Gohad Congress MLA Makhanlal Jatav.

Jatav was shot dead by unidentified persons on April 13, 2009 during the general elections.

Arya was later booked as an accused in the murder case, besides others.
