Supended BJD MLA Pravat Tripathy, who is now cooling his heels behind the bars after he was arrested by CBI in a chit fund scam case on October 31 this year, would be spending the New Year in jail as his bail application in Orissa High Court was not taken up today.

Sources said, the legislator, who has been suspended from his party soon after the arrest, would only hope for some relief only when the High Court reopens after the Christmas holidays. The senior leader was arrested for his alleged links with chit fund company Arthatatwa and with its CMD Pradeep Sethy.

On the other hand, the arrested local news channel- owner Manoj Das on the day withdrew his bail application from the High Court.

Das was also arrested by CBI in September this year for the same offence. Lawyers say Das withdrew his application to approach the lower court for bail again as CBI has in the meantime, submitted preliminary charge sheet against him.
