A Division Bench comprising Justices P Jyothimani and M Duraiswamy reserved its orders after hearing lengthy arguments from the counsel for the petitioners.
Meanwhile, in its written submissions before the court, Fisherman Care, an NGO, alleged the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd had not substantially fulfilled many of the conditions laid down by Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board while giving its consent to establish the plant.
"There is a reasonable apprehension in the minds of the petitioner and the members of the public that operations at the nuclear power plant are imminent given the pressure in expediting the operations of the power plant," the petitioner said.
The petitioner feared that the conditions for safety and protection to the environment stipulated by the board would not be implemented by the NPCIL.
Earlier during arguments, the Centre had pointed out that no technological endeavour was free from certain amount of risk. However, the authorities concerned were fully prepared to meet and face any eventuality at the 2000MW capacity KNPP, it assured.
