The Madras High Court has passed an interim injunction restraining the State Bank of India from ousting a Sri Lankan a woman, who came to India as a refugee and got appointment in the bank on contract basis and later made eligible for the benefits of permanent employees.
Thirukalyanamalar came to India in 1990 from Sri Lanka as refugee and did her Agricultural Bsc and MBA in Tamil Nadu.
She was appointed in the bank in 2008 on a two year contract. As she achieved 60% of business target, she was made eligible for the benefits of permanent employees.

However, on May this year, when she was on maternity leave, she was served a termination notice, against which she approached the Court.
Justice D Hariparanthaman granted interim injunction yesterday restraining the bank management from terminating her from service.
