: Madras High Court has restrained the Dean, Madras Medical College and Dr MGR Medical University, from shifting eight Medicos undergoing Post Graduate Training in Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Egmore, to the Institute of Social Obstetrics and Kasturba Gandhi Hospital for Women and Children in Triplicane.
Justice M Sathyanarayanan, passing interim orders on petitions by the medicos, noted they were undergoing studies and practical training in the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology and had also identified patients for case study. If they are asked to move to the other insitute midway, they may have to start their thesis afresh,which may hamper submission, one of the essential requirements for completing the course.
The Judge said the doctors have to start their training afresh in the Institute of Social Obstetrics and Kasthurba Gandhi Hospital for Women and Children and it may add to the difficulties.

Of the eight doctors who moved court, some had already completed the Diploma Course and admitted in MS (obstetrics &Gynecology) and some had completed their MBBS Degree and been given admission in MS. All these doctors have to identify 30 patients for study population, based on which they have to submit their thesis in the final year
Further they are also undergoing training under a particular set of teaching staff.
The MMC Dean on August 5 2014 directed them to go to Kasthurba Gandhi Institute of Social Obstetrics. Though the doctors made several representations including one on January 20 2015 to the Dean and also met him personally in June, nothing had come of it and so they moved court
Counsel for doctors submitted that the thesis of his clients was halfway through and would get disturbed and that they have to undergo prolonged training under professors to gain their confidence to get opportunity for performing surgeries. If they were shifted midway their surgical training prospects will suffer.
He further submitted that MCI rules which govern medical education prohibits such Mid-stream transfer of PG Medicos.
Concurring with the submissions, the judge granted interim injunction on the August 5 2014 shifting order passed by the Dean.
