The Gauhati High Court today reversed its earlier order of staying the no confidence motion against Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Joyram Engleng and instead allowed Tuliram Ronghang to continue as the CEM.

A Division Bench comprising Justice Biplab Kumar Sharma and Justice Manas Ranjan Pathak today set aside the earlier order which was passed on October 29.

The High Court had stayed the no confidence motion against Engleng on October 29 and Ronghang, who was elected last month after a no-confidence against Engleng, and 19 members of the Council had filed a writ petition before the bench challenging the order.

A special session of the Council was summoned on October 15 and 20 members had passed a no confidence motion against Engleng and elected Ronghang as their Chief Executive Member.

Subsequently, Engleng had filed a petition at the High Court challenging the no confidence against him.

Earlier on October 7, a total 13 Congress executive members and three Board Chairmen had resigned demanding Engleng's resignation.

A section of the executive members, belonging to the Congress hold him responsible for the large scale violence in the district during the agitation for a separate hill state in the wake of announcement for creation of Telangana.
