The Madras High Court today revoked its stay on an order of Pondicherry University suspending six students in the wake of a ragging complaint by a girl student.

Justice K K Sasidharan, however, gave liberty to the six students to file an appeal before the varsity Vice-Chancellor and directed him to pass orders on them as expeditiously as possible, in any case not later than two weeks.

The judge gave the direction after a two-hour hearing in his chambers of the students and the university registrar, who appeared before him complying with his November 19 order.

Passing interim orders on the petition by Vidya T Appukuttan and five others challenging the November 1 suspension, the judge had stayed the move.

He had then said it was in the interest of the students as well as the varsity to resolve the issue at the earliest. There should be a conducive atmosphere in the university for its functioning.

The judge had earlier stayed the suspension of the first-year student of MA Mass Communication, who had complained of ragging by a senior male student. The girl and six other students who supported her were suspended by the university.
