The Bombay High court today asked Maharashtra government to file an affidavit by July 30 stating what action it proposes to take against the guilty police officers on the basis of M G Gaikwad committee's report on the police firing incident at Maval.
Three farmers had been killed in the police firing during an agitation on Mumbai-Pune Expressway in Maval tehsil, near Pune, on August 8, 2011.
A division bench, headed by Justice Abhay Oka, adjourned the hearing of the petition till August 4 and asked the state government to hand over a copy of the report to the petitioner, apart from filing the affidavit.
The petitioner Iswari Prasad Khandelwal had asked for a copy of the Gaikwad committee report which was tabled before the state legislature on June 14.
The committee had concluded that the police firing was not necessary and the police had acted beyond their powers, violating the provisions under the Criminal Procedure Code.
The agitation was against laying of a closed water pipe line carrying water from Mulshi dam to Pimpri-Chinchwad region near Pune.
Khandelwal is also the complainant in the case filed against eight policemen in this regard.
