The Orissa High Court today slapped a fine of Rs 1000 on ruling BJD woman legislator Basanti Mallick for not cooperating with the Court for timely disposal of an election-related matter.

Expressing displeasure over her not being careful in responding to Court notices on time, Justice S C Parija fined Mallick in a case in which her election to the assembly has been challenged.

Congress leader Dasarathi Gomango, who lost to Mallick by 115 votes in 2014 assembly poll, has challenged the election of Mallick alleging gross irregularities during counting.

Notice was issued to the BJD MLA to file her counter to the petition in an affidavit but Mallick had failed to respond to repeated court notices, following which the HC slapped the fine on her.
