The judgement is being delivered by Justices V M Kanade and Justices P D Kode. The dictation is expected to go on for few days, legal sources said.

Besides the appeals filed by the nine persons, an application has also been filed by one of the prime witnesses during the trial Yasmeen Shaikh who had claimed that she was forced to give testimony by social activist Teesta Setalvad.

Teesta too has filed an application giving her version.

The Court said that it would first decide the appeals and then hear both the applications filed by Yasmeen and Teesta respectively.

Fourteen people died in the Best Bakery carnage on March 1, 2002 during the Gujarat riots. While some died in the fire, others were hacked to death when they were asked to come out of the Bakery by a large mob which targetted the family of Habibullah Khan at Hanuman Tekdi in Vadodara.

Of the 17 accused, nine were convicted and sentenced to life by a special court in Mumbai in 2006. The nine had then approached the High Court challenging the verdict.
