The Madras High Court today
stayed an order of National Green Tribunal which restrained the Centre from acting upon a show cause notice issued to promoters of Rajakkamangalam Thurai Harbour in Kanyakumari District.
The First Bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M M Sundresh before which the Centre informed that some facts were not correctly disclosed by the promoters of the harbour with regard to the objections raised before the NGT.
The matter related to a PIL filed by Panaiyoor Region Citizens Welfare Trust which submitted that the Fishing Harbour will destroy the natural habitat of Olive ridely turtles and adversely affect sand dunes which had protected the entire coastal belt from tsunami impact in the year 2004.
The centre also informed the bench that appropriate action was initiated against the promoters for their mis-disclosure of certain facts.
The bench then stayed the NGT order of February 20, 2015.
