The Orissa High Court has stayed the operation of an order passed by the director of Bhubaneswar- based Xavier Institute of Management last month terminating the services of two professors.

Hearing separate writ petitions filed by the two sacked professors, D V Ramana and Banikanta Mishra, a single-judge bench of Justice S K Mishra in an interim order yesterday stayed the operation of the termination orders.

The High Court also directed the XIM-B authority to maintain status quo and fixed January 18 as the next date of hearing.

The sacked professors in their petitions stated that they had been assigned no reasons for termination of their services.

The petitioners' advocate Amrit Mishra argued that the requirement of giving reasons to an order can be read as the requirement of principles of natural justice.
