The HimachalPradesh High Court today directed Principal Secretary (Health), DGP, Drug Controller and Member Secretary, HP Pollution Control Board to be present before the court onNovember 10, in a matter regarding alleged rise of drug trafficking in the state.
A division bench consisting Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Sandeep Sharma passed the order after the court took suo moto notice of media reports underlining illicit drug trade in the state in July 2015. The reports also said that drug trafficking was on a rise in the state.
The court directed the Chief Secretary to the government to file fresh detailed status report after seeking information from other departments concerned on the issue, as well as the steps taken to spread awareness among the masses about the menace and prevent the same.
The court also asked the DGP to file fresh status report indicating as to how many cases have been registered regarding drug trafficking this year, and the number of challans been presented before the court of competent jurisdiction.
