"It goes without saying that if the incident, as stated by the Magistrate, is factually correct, then it is a very serious matter which needs to be dealt with strong hand," a Division Bench of Chief Justice M Y Eqbal and Justice T S Sivagnanam said, taking suo motu cognisance of the matter.

Judicial Magistrate V Pugazhendhi had informed the Principal Judicial Judge Cuddalore that inspector Karthikeyan of Cuddalore Crime Branch had pushed him in his chamber on September 4, with regard to a case.

The Division Bench observed that though the District Judge had addressed the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Villupuram and Superintendent of Police, Cuddalore to take action against the Inspector, they have not bothered to reply.

"It was expected from the DIG and SP to immediately contact the Principal District Judge and should have discussed about the incident and to take suitable action," it said.

The Advocate General submitted that a thorough enquiry would be conducted as to find who all were involved in the incident and place the facts before the court.

The bench posted the matter for September 17.
