The Kerala High court today upheld the government's decision to start 148 higher secondary schools in various gram panchayts in eight districts from Ernakulam to Kasaragod.
Earlier, a single judge bench had imposed restrictions for starting the schools without complying with the provisions of Kerala Education Rules.
Challenging this decision, a batch of writ appeals were filed, which came up today before a division bench, comprising Chief Justice Manjulla Chellur and Justice A M Shaffique.
The bench set aside the order and upheld the government's decision, but said new applications to start HSSs in other districts should also be considered, looking into the educational needs and without any discrimination.
