A day after a Habeas Corpus Petition was filed against son of Chennai Corporation Mayor Duraisamy by a businessman seeking a direction to produce his wife and daughter who were allegedly being kept in his illegal custody, the woman and her five-year old daughter appeared in Madras High Court today.

They appeared before a Division Bench comprising Justice T Mathivanan and Justice R Mahadevan through their counsel and said they were not kidnapped but were staying with the woman's parents in Rajahmundry in Andha Pradesh.

They submitted that a family dispute case was pending before Rajahmundry Family Court.

The Bench recorded the statements and dismissed the HCP filed by Velivel Rakesh alleging that her wife and child are in illegal custody of the Mayors son.

The businessman had contended yesterday that the Mayor's son became a family friend as he was the President of Chennai Canine Club, where his 28-year-old wife was a committee member. He alleged that the man got into an illicit relationship with her and started threatening him with dire consequences if he did not agree for a consent divorce.

The businessman had also submitted that his wife and daughter were missing and he had got 'reliable information' from friends and relatives that they were in the illegal custody of the Mayor's son

Though he had given a police complaint, they were unable to take any action due to the man's political background, he submitted.
