Private life insurer HDFC Life today said it has set a target to sell two lakh policies of its newly launched Cancer Care plan in the current fiscal.

"We launched Cancer Care plan on May 18 and have sold around 35,000 policies by now. We have a target to sell two lakh Cancer Care policies in this fiscal," HDFC Life Vice-President (Products) Sujoy Manna told reporters here.

HDFC Life is the first private company to come out with such a policy for a disease which is rising at an alarming rate in India, he said.

According to the company, Cancer Care offers lumpsum benefit on diagnosis of the disease that helps to protect a customer's income and savings from expenses that aren't covered by major medical plans.

The company clocked first premium income of around Rs 61 crore in the last fiscal in Madhya Pradesh, Manna said.
