Head constable arrested for helping steal seized property

A police head constable attached to Economic Offence Wing was arrested and remanded to custody on charges of helping three persons to steal seized property of a Tirupur-based financial firm, which had allegedly cheated depositors crores of rupees, a few years ago.

The Economic Offence wing has seized property belonging to Welltex after complaints from the investors worth Rs 2.78 crore as per the directive of TANPID court and kept in a godown in Veerapandi near there, police said.

When the officials from Revenue department went recently to the godown to take steps to auction the articles, to their surprise found property worth about Rs 12 lakh and registered a case. Investigation led to the arrest of three persons, they said.
 

Further investigation revealed the hands of the head constable Senthilkumar in helping the accused to steal the property, they said.

Senthilkumar, at present working in Mettupalayam near here was on medical leave and could not be traced.

On information that he was moving around Dhali, near Tirupur police rushed there and arrested him late last night.

He was produced before the 2nd Judicial Magistrate (in-charge Chelladurai) in Tirupur and remanded and lodged in the Centrl Jail here, police said.
