Head constable caught red-handed taking bribe

A head constable was caught red- handed while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 in Raigadh district, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials said today.

Mahesh R Gaikwad (32), attached to Tala police station in the neighbouring Raigad district was arrested last night for allegedly accepting Rs 30,000 as bribe from the complainant, additional SP ACB, Thane range, Srinivas Ghadge said.

According to the complaint lodged with ACB Raigad unit, Gaikwad had demanded a Rs bribe of 50,000 from the complainant in order to favour him by not registering an offence against him in an application of enquiry.

The complainant had already paid a sum of Rs 15,000 and the policeman was to receive an instalment of Rs 30,000, Ghadge said.
 

Following the complainant, Raigadh ACB unit laid a trap and nabbed Gaikwad red-handed last night in Raigad.

The policeman has been booked under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, he added.
