A 45-year-old Delhi Police head constable suffered serious injuries after a speeding SUV being driven by a youth hit him at a police picket near Akshardham temple here in the wee hours today, the third such incident in a week.
The incident occurred at around 1 AM on National Highway- 24 near Akshardham temple where the victim, identified as head constable Raghu Nandan was checking vehicles along with other policemen after putting barricades on the road, said a senior police official.
"The team saw a white SUV coming from Sarai Kale Khan at a high speed. When it was signalled to stop, the driver hit Nandan and dragged him to some distance and came to a halt only after hitting the barricades," he said.

Constable Mukesh Kumar and a home guard who were also on duty at the spot and had somehow managed to jump away in time, nabbed the errant driver, identified as Sidhant Kashyap (22) along with his friend Manish, he said.
Both of them were allegedly heavily drunk at the time of the accident. Police also recovered bottles of alcohol from the car.
The head constable suffered severe head injuries in the incident and was rushed to a private hospital in east Delhi's Patparganj where he is undergoing treatment, said the official.
Kashyap was arrested and a case of rash, drunk and negligent driving was registered against him. He, however, was later released on bail.
Last Sunday, an assistant sub-inspector and a constable of Delhi Police were killed while another was seriously injured when a drunken cab driver rammed his speeding car into the barricades manned by them in Kalindi Kunj area in Southeast Delhi.
On Thursday night, a 55-year-old Delhi Police sub- inspector was mowed down by a speeding truck in Outer Delhi's Alipur area.
