A Head Constable of Delhi Police's elite Special Cell unit allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with his service revolver in front of his wife in northeast Delhi's Brahmpuri area, police said today.

The deceased, Gyanendra Rathi (38), reportedly had a spat with his wife after which he took out his revolver and shot himself around 1 am on the intervening night of October 29 and 30, said a senior police officer.

He added that Rathi used to have frequent quarrels with his wife after consuming alcohol. On the fateful day, there was a spat between the couple over preparation of food following which, the Head Constable lost his temper and shot himself.

Rathi was posted at the Special Cell office at Lodhi Road, police said, adding that the couple was married for 12 years.

Inquest proceedings are on, said the officer.
