Head constable suspended

: A head constable was suspended today for allegedly extorting money from the public and for other illegal activities.

Police said that the man, posted at Taluk police station, had abstained from duty on several days without proper permission and was mostly inebriated, bringing disrepute to the Department.

He also conducted vehicle checks without permission from his superiors and extorted money from vehicle drivers/owners and also Bar owners.

He had threatened a fish shop owner and demanded money from him. The issue was brought to the notice of the Superintendent of Police, Jayachandran,who ordered his suspension, pending departmental enquiry.
