A headmaster of a government-run primary school in Odisha's Kendrapara district has been placed under suspension on charges of misappropriation of grants earmarked for school infrastructure development project, official sources said here today.
Khirod Kumar Nayak, ex-headmaster of Dhanmandal primary school under Patkura police Station, who has since been posted in another nearby school, had allegedly withdrawn Rs 4.9 lakh sanctioned for construction activities in the school under Sarva Sikshya Aviyana, they said.
The construction work remained incomplete and the funds were allegedly siphoned off by Nayak, who also failed to submit utilisation certificate to corroborate its proper use, sources in the school and mass education department said.

Protesting the fund misuse, parents and guardians had lodged a complaint in this regard and a departmental inquiry was conducted, which found him guilty of omission and commission of the act, they said.
The headmaster was suspended yesterday on charge of defalcation of government grants. Departmental proceedings have also been initiated against the accused and an FIR has been lodged against him, they added.
