Headmistress suspended for food poisoing of MDM

The headmistress of a government school has been suspended as over 80 students fell ill after eating Mid-Day Meal (MDM) in Kendrapara district.

Alpana Das, headmistress of Kharinasi upper primary school, was suspended yesterday for alleged negligect in supervision of MDM, District Education Officer Markat Keshari Ray said today.

"During inquiry it was found that egg curry given to the students was not fit for human consumption. The students developed nausea, pain in the lower abdomen and started vomiting due to suspected food poisoning on Saturday. As the headmistress had erred in her duty in carrying out quality test of the foodstuff, she was placed under suspension", Ray said.
 

Eighty students were rushed to the community health center at Mahakalapada, primary health center at Ramnagar and district government hospital at Kendrapara.

All were discharged after treatment, said Additional District Medical Officer, Manoj Kumar Behera.
