A schoolteacher was today killed on the tracks by a train while she was returning home from school here this evening.

Government Railway Police (GRP) officials said the teacher, identified as Nimisha, was run over by the Express train near Old Faridabad area. She had headphones plugged in her ears when the accident took place.

The body of Nimisha, a teacher of DAV School at the city's Sainik Colony who got married a year ago, has been recovered and sent for a post-mortem.

"The fatal incident could have been avoided had she been a bit more cautious while crossing the tracks," a GRP officer said.

GRP officials said despite repeated warnings a large number of people cross the tracks while talking over phone or listening to music.
