A Deputy Director of Medical Services (TB) was today placed under suspension, pending inquiry, in a case where he reportedly took money to appoint a large number of health visitors, officials said.
The official Vasanthan was manhandled and his office ransacked some 20 days ago by those who alleged that he had taken Rs.One lakh to Rs.Three lakh for the appointment as health visitors.
Over 500 persons had complained that the official had issued letters with a monthly consolidated pay of Rs.8,500 and a local allowance of Rs.750 per month with an increment of five per cent. However, the complainants claimed that they had not received salary for the last eight months.

The order placing Vasanthan under suspension was despatched from Chennai and handed over to him, official sources said.
