Hearing on the bail plea of senior bureaucrat J P Joshi, in judicial custody for allegedly raping a woman after promising her a job, was deferred today as the judge was preoccupied with some important work.

The bail plea of Joshi, Additional Secretary (Home) in Uttarakhand, will now come up for hearing tomorrow, his counsel Rupendra Bhandari told PTI.

The hearing could not be held today as District and Sessions Judge Ram Singh had other important engagements, he said.

Earlier, the hearing on his bail petition was deferred on December seven as the judge was on leave.

Joshi was arrested on December 5 after a woman filed a complaint accusing him of raping her after promising her a job in the Tourism department.
