Heat wave: Chief Secretary reviews measures

: Tamil Nadu government has directed various departments to take up precautionary measures in view of the prevailing heat wave across the state.

Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan reviewed the measures taken by various departments yesterday, an official release said today.

While the School Education department has already decided to shut schools with effect fom today,the transport department was directed to operate special buses to cater to high school students appearing for exams.

The health department was asked to keep all medicines ready to serve patients affected by the heat wave, while the Veterinary department was told to take steps to supply adequate food and water to animals, it said.
 

During the meeting, the Labour department was advised to take up precautionary measures and the Local Administration department directed to set up water pandals at locations frequented by people in large numbers.

Corporations and municipalities were asked to take up adequate measures to manage the heat wave, the release said.

Already the government has advised various District Collectors to take up adequate measures during the heat wave conditions, the release added.
