Heat wave conditions claim 26 lives in Krishna district

Severe heat wave conditions have claimed 26 lives in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh so far, the district administration officially announced here today.

Most of the victims were aged agricultural labourers, district officials said.

District officials said that 26 people died in Krishna district this month due to a heat wave during this month, quoting reports reaching the district headquarters here.

The Koduru mandal reported maximum deaths at seven, followed by Avanigadda mandal (6), Machilipatnam (4), Kalidindi and Kanchikacherla mandals (two each), Reddygudem, Gudivada, Bantumilli, Thotlavalluru as well as Nandiagama mandals, where one person died in each mandal.

Meanwhile, temperatures remained stubbornly high at many places in the Krishna district.
 

The maximum temperature recorded in Machilipatnam last week was 44 degrees celsius.

The metrological department has also announced that extreme heat wave conditions would prevail in coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh.
