Heat wave continues in UP, Banda hottest at 45.2 deg C

Heat wave prevailed in Uttar Pradesh as weather remained dry with mercury level crossing over 45 degrees Celsius at Banda, which was the hottest.

According to MET department, weather was dry over the state as day temperatures fell in Varanasi division, rose in Bareilly and Meerut divisions and changed little in remaining divisions.

The temperature were appreciably above normal in Faizabad, Allahabad, Lucknow, Moradabad division, Agra, Meerut division, above normal in Varanasi, Kanpur and Jhansi divisions, and below normal in Gorakhpur division.

Highest maximum temperature over the state was 45.2 degree Celsius recorded at Banda.

According to the forecast, weather is most likely to be dry over East UP, while thunderstorms accompanied with squall are likely at isolated places over west UP.

In view of the torrid weather conditions in the state, Lucknow district administration has ordered changes in school timings from tomorrow.

All classes from nursery to 8th will operate from 7 am to 11 am till May 6, after which schools will be closed for summer vacation, District Magistrate Raj Shekhar said.

Meanwhile, classes 9th to 12th will operate from 7 am to 12 noon till May 20, after which schools will have summer holidays, he said, adding for 9th to 12th, classes will continue till May 27.

Shekhar has asked all schools to take appropriate precautionary measures for children to combat the hot weather.
