Ludhiana recorded a high of 41.5 deg C while the mercury in Patiala soared to 42.1 deg C, two and three notches above normal respectively.
In Chandigarh, where unscheduled power cuts, particularly in the city's southern sector, have added to people's woes, the temperature touched 40.7 deg C.
In Haryana, the mercury soared to 42.7 deg C in Rohtak, while Bhiwani recorded a high of 42.2 deg C.
Ambala's maximum settled at 40.9 deg C, while Hisar recorded a high of 42 deg C.
The MeT has forecast that the maximum temperatures in the region may further soar over the next few days.
