Heat wave unrelenting as temperatures soar

The national capital reeled under searing heat with the maximum day temperature touching 42.4 degrees, six notches above normal.

The minimum stayed four notches above normal to settle at 31.5 degrees celsius, the Met office said.

Churu baked at 45.3 degrees celsius as the desert state of Rajasthan remained in the grip of a stifling heat wave.

Day temperatures settled above normal at many places with SriGanganagar, Jaipur, Kota and Barmer recording highs of 44.2, 42.7, 42.6 and 42 degrees celsius respectively.

The heat wave continued unabated in Punjab and Haryana with mercury soaring up to six notches above normal at several places.

 

Narnaul was the hottest zone in the two states recording a high of 43.5 degrees celsius, four notches above normal.

Amritsar simmered at a high of 43.2 degrees celsius, six notches above normal.

Chandigarh sweltered at 40.5, six degrees above normal, with a humidity level of 57 per cent.

The weather department has forecast light rains or thundershowers at some places in Punjab and Haryana in the next couple of days.
