Heatwave claims 7 lives in Punjab

At least seven people, including two ITBP personnel, died due to heatwave in parts of Punjab.

Two Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel succumbed to heat related problems at a hospital in Patiala today, police said.

ASI Joginder Singh (52) and Head Constable Shatrughan (44) posted at Patiala's 51st Battallion of ITBP, were admitted to Rajindra hospital on Saturday afternoon after they were found unconscious. They breathed their last today, police said.

Five persons died due to scorching heat in Amritsar yesterday. They were identified as Kuldip Rai, Jaswinder Singh, Ajit Kumar, Tarsem Singh and Kuldip Singh, police sad.

Earlier, 10 people, six from Punjab and four from Haryana, have lost their lives due to the ongoing heatwave in the region, taking the toll to 17.
