The maximum temperature in most parts of Punjab and Haryana hovered between two to eight degrees above normal, the MeT office said here.
In the plains of Punjab and Haryana, Amritsar recorded the highest temperature at 45.9 deg C, up by eight notches above normal.
While Rohtak sizzled at 43.7 deg C, five notches above normal, the day temperature at Hisar settled at 43.5 deg C, three notches above normal.
Among other places, Bhiwani had a high of 43 deg C followed by 42 deg C at Patiala, up by five notches, 41.4 deg C at Ludhiana, two notches above normal, 42.2 deg C at Chandigarh, four notches above normal and an identical 41.1 deg C at Ambala and Karnal, four notches each above normal.
Disruption of power and water supplies at many places added to the woes of people.
The MeT predicted no respite from intense heat conditions in the region as days will remain mostly sunny during the next 48 hours.
