Heatwave relents in parts of Punjab, Haryana

Overcast sky and dust storm led to a drop in temperature in parts of Punjab and Haryana while rest of the region continued to reel under heat wave claiming at least ten lives during the past one week.

While five deaths were reported from Haryana, four persons died due to heatwave in Amritsar and one in Chandigarh, officials said.

According to the Meteorological department, several places witnessed dust storms and temperature dropped by one to two notches.

In the plains of Punjab and Haryana, Ludhiana was the hottest place with a high of 42.7 deg C, two notches above the normal level.
 

Hisar recorded 42.5 deg C temperature, two notches above the normal level and the maximum temperature in Amritsar was 42.2 deg C, two degrees above normal.

Patiala registered a high of 42.1 deg C, three notches above normal followed by 42 deg C at Ambala, three notches above normal, 41.6 deg C each at Chandigarh and Bhiwani and 41.5 deg C at Narnaul.

Frequent disruptions in power supply and water shortage have added to the woes of the people in the region, reports here said.

Meanwhile, the Met office has forecast dust or thunder storm in the region during the next 24 hours.
