Moderate to heavy rainfall occurred in Punjab and Haryana today with maximum temperature sharply dropping by up to ten notches in parts of the region.
Punjab and Haryana is receiving rainfall since last night and it continued till evening, the MeT office said here.
As a result of heavy downpour, the mercury hovered between five degrees Celsius below normal to ten notches below normal in the region, it said.

While Amritsar received 118 mm of rains till this evening, Patiala was drenched by 53 mm of rainfall.
Ambala had 51 mm of rainfall followed by 13.7 mm at Chandigarh, 12 mm at Ludhiana, 8 mm at Bhiwani and 3 mm at Hisar.
Hisar had a maximum of 30.7 degrees Celsius temperature, which was five notches below normal.
Among other places in the region, Narnaul had a high of 30.4 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal followed by 27.6 degrees Celsius at Chandigarh, also five notches below normal and 27.1 degrees Celsius at Patiala, six notches below normal.
Ambala settled at a high of 26.3 degrees Celsius, seven notches below normal whereas Ludhiana had a high of 26 degrees Celsius, seven notches below normal.
Amritsar had a high of 25.4 degrees Celsius, which was ten notches below normal.
Rain waters inundated all low lying areas in the region, eports here said.
Rain was accompanied by wind with a speed of 20 km per hour which flattened paddy crop at a few places.
The MeT forecast moderate to heavy rains in most parts of Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours.
