The weatherman today forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in five districts of south Bengal as the low pressure that formed oon Sunday remained almost stationary in the southern Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal.

"Owing to the low pressure, heavy to very heavy rain will occur in the districts of North 24-Parganas, Nadia, Murshidabad, Bankura and Birbhum," regional MeT Director G K Das said.

"The weather condition will continue till at least tomorrow afternoon," he said.

Kolkata, which was battered by downpour yesterday and early today, got a respite since morning though the sky remained overcast.

Das said the city is likely to experience one or two spells of rain as the sky would remain cloudy till tomorrow evening.

The metropolis received 131.9 mm rainfall in 24 hours from 8.30 AM yesterday. Waterlogging in many areas and uprooted trees on the streets disrupted normal life today also after throwing traffic out of gear last evening.

Traffic snarls were witnessed in the morning rush hours at different places such as Central Avenue, Rashbehari Avenue and Hospital Road, which were blocked either due to water on the roads or uprooted tree on the streets.
