After a brief respite, rains lashed the Union Territory since last night, affecting normal life today.

After two days of lull, rains started battering the city and suburbs since last night with Puducherry recording 6.6 cm rainfall in the last 24 hours ended at 8.30 am today, Met officials said.

Traffic came to a halt in several parts and normal life was hit. Low lying areas were inundated.

The resumed rains come at a time when the government machinery was going ahead with assessment of the damage caused by incessant rains earlier this month.
