Heavy rain leads to flood-like situation in Karauli, Rajasthan

More than 30 people were rescued today in Karauli district of Rajasthan which is facing a flood-like situation due to incessant rains even as at least five deaths have been reported in rain-related incidents in the state till now.

Teams of the district administration, police and civil defence volunteers rescued people and shifted them to an inn where arrangements for their food and stay have been made.

The district received heavy rainfall leading to the flood-like situation which left many people trapped in their homes, though no loss of life was reported.

"More than 30 people, including 10 children, have been rescued from different parts of Karauli today. Several of them were shifted to a temporary shelter and the remaining went to their relatives' homes," said Additional Collector, Karauli Narendra Kumar Jain, adding that a National Disaster Responce Force (NDRF) team has been called from Jaipur to assist in the rescue operations.
 

Ramraj Mina, the in-charge of a control room set up to monitor the situation, said adequate arrangements for food and water have been made, adding that the district has received more than 500 mm of rains since yesterday.

Rains affected normal life here in the state capital as well where roads were flooded leading to traffic congestion. The downpour that started this morning continued till evening.

Meanwhile, isolated places in Jaipur, Bharatpur, Kota and Ajmer divisions witnessed heavy to very heavy rainfall, whereas light to moderate rainfall occurred at many places in Bikaner division since yesterday.

Todaraisingh (Tonk) recorded the maximum of 19 cm rains, while Anta in Baran recorded 15 cm and many other places recorded below 14 cm rains since yesterday till this morning.

Pilani, Jaipur, Kota and Ajmer received 48.2 mm, 46.8 mm, 17.4 mm and 12.7 mm of rains respectively till last evening since this morning.

The MeT department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in the eastern and heavy rainfall at isolated areas in the western parts of the state tomorrow.

At least five persons have died in rain-related incidents in the state so far.

Heavy rainfall has affected normal life in Kota, Baran and nearby areas in the last few days.

Rivers are swollen and some roads connecting villages in Baran have been inundated.
