Coal mining in the open cast mines of the Ramagundam region here was hit due to heavy rain, a senior official said today.

Ramagundam region has four open cast coal mines, which produce around 52,000 tonnes of coal a day.

Heavy downpour since yesterday did not allow miners to dig and lift the coal from the mines and only 11,000- 15,000 tonnes could be extracted from the four mines, Chief General Manager, Singareni Collieries Company Ltd, K Sugunakar Reddy told PTI.

"Production of coal was meagre yesterday. Due to the heavy rains we could not produce nearly 40,000 tonnes a day. But it may not affect the annual target of goal production," he said.

He further said that 35 days in the year during monsoon are not counted in production.
