Heavy rainfall alert in North East

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) today sounded an alert in Meghalaya and neighbouring states in the northeastern region that heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur at isolated places in these states.

Information has been received from the New Delhi based NDMA that the situation is likely to continue till tomorrow, Revenue & Disaster Management Principal Secretary Praveen Kumar said in a statement here.

Flash floods and landslide have hit Meghalaya in the past one week killing over 40 people and destroying properties worth several hundred crores.

The NDMA also asked the state to take precautions.

The meteorological department office here has also warned of heavy rainfall and thunderstorm over Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and other states in the next 18 hours.
