Heavy rains disrupted normal life in Bihar's northeastern parts including Kishanganj, Araria, Purnia, Katihar, Madhepura and Supaul today.
Purnia, where the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) maintains a weather station, recorded 12.5 centimetres of rain throughout the day. Its maximum temperature dipped to 24.8 degrees Celsius, while the minimum recorded was 23.7 degrees. The temperatures were 10 degrees below normal for this time of the year.
The adjoining district of Purnia also received around the same amount of downpour. Supaul witnessed over 10 centimetres of rainfall.
"Heavy rainfall in northeast Bihar is due to a low pressure area approaching it from the Bay of Bengal. The rains are expected to continue till tomorrow evening in that part of the state," said a weather official based at IMD station in Patna.
The downpour in the northeastern parts of the state forced people to mostly remain indoors as apart from heavy rains, the visibility was also very low.
Meanwhile, weather in Patna was pleasant with maximum temperature at 33 degrees Celsius and minimum at 21.5 degrees Celsius. Weather officials said the temperatures will rise to 40 degree Celsius tomorrow as the sky will remain clear and the sun will shine brightly.
The temple town of Gaya, normally the hottest in Bihar was cool at 30 degrees Celsius maximum and 22.7 degrees Celsius minimum temperature. The place received 5.5 centimetres of rainfall.
Bhagalpur, a place famous for its silk industry, witnessed 7 centimetres of rain. The temperatures there dipped to 27 and 24.6 degrees Celsius maximum and minimum, respectively.
